Non-toxic, Environmentally Safe Solution
California’s environmental regulatory agencies are quite aware of the use of ethylene oxide sterilization by hospitals and other facilities, and require emissions reporting and emissions controls. The California Air Resources Board is finalizing a rule that requires the transition from using the dangerous carcinogen, Ethylene Oxide, for sterilization to Highly Penetrative Hydrogen Peroxide, which involves hydrogen peroxide vapor filling the sterilizer chamber, contacting and sterilizing exposed device surfaces. Once the sterilization cycle has completed, the vapor is vacuumed from the chamber and converted to water and oxygen. Many hospitals have already switched voluntarily, as it saves money and cannot endanger workers.
